Ghosts, Toast and the Things Unsaid
A live performance layered with augmented-reality audio — a two-person encounter in a kitchen where a couple's unspoken thoughts linger in the air.
Ghosts was an intimate, technology-driven performance I co-directed with Google Creative Lab. Premiering at the Adelaide Fringe, it invited two audience members to dress as ghosts and revisit the kitchen of a couple who had spent 50 years together.
The Technology
Using mobile audio technology developed with Google, audiences could “tune in” to the characters’ unspoken thoughts as they moved through the space. The interplay between live action and inner monologue allowed us to explore the fragile boundary between what is said and what is felt.
“The Ghosts project set out to explore uncharted territory… The outcome completely exceeded my expectations. I wish we had more Sandpits around to play with.” — Tea Uglow, Creative Director, Google Creative Lab
